In a tweet on Saturday morning, PZPN president Cezary Kulesza announced that the Poland national team currently has no intention to play their 2022 FIFA World Cup play-off match against Russia, scheduled for next month.
After pressure from fans and journalists, Kulesza tweeted that there should be “No more words,” and that it is “time to act!”
“Due to the escalation of the aggression of the Russian Federation towards Ukraine, the Polish national team does not intend to play the play-off match against Russia. This is the only correct decision. We are in talks with the Swedish and Czech federations to present a common stance to FIFA.”
The three federations earlier joined to issue a statement declaring that they had no intention of travelling to Russia for their upcoming play-off matches, while Kulesza and the PZPN have also announced support for both Ukrainian clubs and the Ukraine national team.
