After a three-year absence, Miedź Legnica have earned promotion back to the Ekstraklasa. The Lower Silesian club were confirmed with three games left to play.
In defeating Chrobry Głogów 1-0 in Saturday’s Derby Dolnośląskie, Wojciech Łobodziński’s side had put themselves on the brink of promotion from the I Liga. Their place in the top flight was confirmed just over 24 hours later, as second-placed Arka Gdynia were defeated 4-1 at mid-table Resovia Rzeszów.
Miedź have been in dominating form all season, losing just three of their 31 games to date. They have also lost only once since October, and picked up 24 points from their 11 spring round matches.
While promotion in now guaranteed, the second-tier title is yet to be decided. That could be confirmed as early as Tuesday, if third-placed Widzew Łódź fail to beat play-off chasing, cross-city rivals ŁKS Łódź. If not, Miedź can confirm it themselves on Saturday, at Arka Gdynia.
