Ruch promoted back to 1 Liga!

Ruch Chorzów earned promotion back to the 1 Liga on Sunday afternoon, with a 4-0 play-off final victory over Motor Lublin in Chorzów.

Ruch were favourites for the tie, with home advantage by virtue of their third-placed league finish; however they had needed extra-time to overcome Radunia Stężyca in the semi-final. By contrast, Motor arrived in Chorzów on the back of a resounding 4-0 victory over Wigry Suwałki in their semi.

But after taking the lead through Michał Mokrzycki’s early penalty quickly swung proceedings in the hosts’ favour, a hat-trick from striker Daniel Szczepan put the game beyond any doubt.

Jarosław Skrobacz’s team return to the second tier after four years away. Their second successive promotion comes after dropping through the leagues like a stone – falling from the Ekstraklasa to the 3.Liga in three seasons between 2017 and 2019.
