At FIFA’s Football Awards in Paris, 35-year-old Oleksy was voted ahead of goals by Dimitri Payet and Richarlison to become the first amputee player to claim the award. He was handed his prize by former Italy and Juventus star Allesandro del Piero.
Oleksy lost the lower part of his left leg aged just 23, in a construction accident. Having previously played as a goalkeeper, when Oleksy returned to the pitch after his accident, he did so as an attacker.
The goal against Stal Rzeszów in November, Capped an impressive year for Oleksy. Only a month earlier he had been a part of the Poland squad which reached the last sixteen of the Amputee World Cup in Turkiye. He continues to combine his new-found stardom with his day job on the construction site.
