Widzew promoted!

Widzew Łódź earned promotion back to the Ekstraklasa on Sunday afternoon. Janusz Niedźwiedź’s side returned to the top flight after an eight-year absence, with goals from Bartlomiej Pawłowski and Dominik Kun giving them a 2-1 victory over Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała on the final day of the 1 Liga season.

Widzew entered the final day knowing that they only had to match the result in the game between Arka Gdynia and Sandecja Nowy Sącz. They did exactly – Arka also claimed a 2-1 victory, which was only enough to give them a spot in the play-offs.

Arka’s play-off semi-final opponents were also confirmed on the final day. They will meet Chrobry Głogów, whose 4-0 win over Zagłębie Sosnowiec put them ahead of Sandecja and Podbeskidzie in sixth place.

The final play-off places were already confirmed: Korona Kielce will host Odra Opole in the second semi, having finished 4th and 5th respectively.

Meanwhile, in the 2 Liga, Lech II Poznań failed to get the victory against champions Stal Rzeszów, which they need to take the final play-off place. Instead, Radunia Stężyca will travel to Ruch Chorzów. In the second semi-final, Wigry Suwałki will host Motor Lublin.

The 2 Liga play-off semi finals will take place on Wednesday 25th May, with the 1 Liga games a day later. Both finals will then be played on Sunday 29th May.
