Górnik Zabrze have agreed the loan signing of Spanish striker Higinio Marin, from Bulgarian side Ludogorets Razgrad, until the end of the season.

28-year-old Marin arrives at Roosevelta 81 as a replacement for his compatriot, Jesus Jimenez, who left for MLS club Toronto FC earlier in the transfer window. Marin will wear the number 9 shirt he vacated.

The striker signed for Ludogorets from Spanish side Numancia in August 2020, whilst he has also played for Real Valladolid B.

In the absence of their former star, Górnik coach Jan Urban will be hoping that Marin can strike a strong partnership with Lukas Podolski. Marin’s goalscoring record in Bulgaria may need to be improved upon, though: he scored just nine goals over 18 months, with only two strikes in the Bulgarian cup this season.

Górnik do, however, have a knack for picking up relatively unknown strikers from the Iberian peninsula. Before Jimenez, there was also Igor Angulo, who spent four years at the club before moving to India.

Coach Urban has specifically been searching for Jimenez’s replacement in Spain, having played there himself during the 1990s. The midfielder played most notably for Osasuna, but also spent time with Valladolid and Toledo. He returned to Osasauna on two occasions as a manger, coaching firstly their B team, and then their first team.
