Górnik capture ex-Liverpool man

Górnik Zabrze captured their second Spaniard of the transfer window on Thursday, announcing the signing of former Liverpool attacker and Barcelona youth player Dani Pacheco on a free transfer.

The left-winger had spent the previous ten years in his homeland, with clubs such as Alcorcón, Betis, Getafe, Malaga and, most recently, Logrones. Prior to his decade-long stint in Spain, Pacheco had made a handful of appearances for both Liverpool and Norwich City.

Former La Masia graduate Pacheco joins his compatriot Higinio Marin at Ulica Roosevelta, after being released from his contract at Cypriot side Aris Limassol in January. It was reported at the time that coach Jan Urban was continuing to scour Spain for players who could aid his side, having spent time there as both a player and a coach.

While in the Barcelona academy Pacheco reportedly garnered the nickname “The Assassin”, due to his knack for scoring goals from almost any position. He has also played at every youth level – from under 16s to under 21s – for the Spanish national team.

Pacheco has signed a contract with Górnik until the end of the season, with the option to extend for another year. He will wear the Trójkolorowi‘s number 7 shirt.
