Celtic confirm Nawrocki acquisition

Scottish champions Celtic have confirmed the signing of Polish-German defender Maik Nawrocki From Legia Warsaw. The 22-year-old has signed a five-year deal at Parkhead.

The transfer of Nawrocki to Scotland has been in the pipeline for a while, with the defender absent from Legia’s Ekstraklasa clash against ŁKS Łódź at the weekend. The deal is expected to earn Legia in the region of €4.5 million – making him The second-highest Polish defender to transfer from the Ekstraklasa, after Jan Bednarek.

“He’s a very highly-rated young player and someone who we believe will be a great addition to the squad.

“He’s also a player I am very much aware of, having seen him play for Legia Warsaw in the Europa League and I know he was very keen to move to Celtic, so we’re looking forward to working with him.”

Nawrocki’s last action as a Legia Player was to score the winning spot-kick as the Wojskowi claimed the Superpuchar shield against Ekstraklasa winners Raków Częstochowa.

“Celtic are a famous club throughout the world and, of course, they’re very well-known in Poland, having had a number of Polish players in recent years, so I know just how big this club is and how incredible the supporters are, and I can’t wait to play in front of the fans and experience that for myself.”

Nawrocki becomes fifth player to leave Legia for Celtic, following in the footsteps of Josip Juranović, Artur Boruc, Dariusz Wdowczyk And Dariusz Dziekanowski. Several other Poles have also plied their trade at the Scottish side, including Maciej Żurawski, Paweł Brożek, Łukasz Załuska and Patryk Klimala.

Nawrocki will wear the number 17 shirt.
